Need help finding old Mehndi Pattern Website ASAP!

I found this site years ago when I started my foot tattoo a few years ago, and now that I am doing my other foot, I can't find it! I lost everything when my last computer crashed so I am having no luck at all!

The site had a mix of traditional patterns not finished pieces. I am looking for a heart pattern, Star pattern and one other that is much tougher.

Any help you can offer would be great cause I am going in very soon!

Thanks!

Please read this. A friend sent it to me, and I think it's very interesting. I know of some actual towns that have bans on either henna or just "black henna", but have never heard of this, and have been doing henna tattoos at craft fairs for years. Maybe someone else has more insight.

I play around with henna on myself but I consider myself barely a novice. I'm hoping to make connection with more experienced experts who live in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area (I live in St. Paul), hoping to find a way to learn (I perfer learning from people vs. a book). Anyone here from the Twin Cities?

Henna for Hair

I asked this question on a different tribe and was directed here.. so.. here's a copy of the original :)

I'm about to embark into the world of henna, after being a professional colorist and makeup artist for 6 years. Basically, I'm sick of the chemicals and tired of putting myself at risk. So..that being said...I'm wanting to henna my hair. Here's what I know. Only use body art quality henna on hair that has any previous color in it....so I'm seeking out good body art henna. There are sooooooooo many to choose from!! I have heard that Yemeni is good, Pradba, Jamilla....aie yi yiiiiiiiii....... what's a girl to do? My hair is medium brown, a bit lighter in parts from the summer, and I would love a deep red tone...but nothing too orangey or coopery... I have heard that adding cloves is good to deepen the color...as well as adding some indigo. I would love to hear of any experience with this as well as resources for purchasing. I have been on www.hennaforhair.com as well and it's a great site...but I want to hear from my tribe mates! :) Cheers!! Kaia

care sheets/release forms??

Hiya all!

I've started doing henna at a new tattoo shop, and so I have my little "henna care" sheets to give people on the go.

But I considered doing a release form too. This could be used as a record of what I've done, but also answer some henna FAQs at the same time. Do any of you do this? If so, would ya mind sharing your format? Just thought I would pose this question to other professional mehndi artists...

Also, if anyone wants to share what they put on their care sheets in case I've forgotten anything, that would be cool!

Hi, everyone. I'm a facepainter who has been getting a lot of calls for henna tattoos. I'm thinking about getting into this since it's so popular.

Where should I buy my supplies?

Do I need to take classes? Should I buy an instructional video?

For doing henna tattoos at parties/festivals, should I use rubber stencils instead of trying to do freehand designs?

henna and pregnancy

Hey all,

I've been doing henna for quite some time now but I've never done it on a pregnant woman and would really like to do that.

A friend is now pregnant and I brought the idea up.
She's up for it but after some research, she would like me to mix the henna with lavender oil and lemon only (no tea/coffee/tamarind/cloves/safran flowers which is usually what I use)

I understand the concern about the safety of the baby but my "problem" with this is that it'll be a lot of work for not much of a result.

What's your take on this ? Part of me still wants to do it, part of me doesn't want to bother.

Let me know
Cheers
Magali

Practicing tips

Okay, so heres the deal. I really want to try a henna design for the first time on my hand, but I don't want to buy all the supplies only to make a mess that won't come off. Problem is, I don't quite know how to practice it other than drawing with pen on my hand, which isn't good because it runs and gets blurry. Any advice would be great. Thanks!

outside events: Sweat

Anyone else had a problem with this? I have done plenty of outside events, but I had my first encounter with a client who sweats a lot. The henna design was pretty much ok, but the sweat was running down his arm & picking up some henna and making orange streaks. I gave him a napkin, and told him to dab at the sweat as much as possible--that's all I could think of.

Any advice with this?

thanks!

We agreed that the best place to find one would most likely be inspired by henna work and wondered if you wonderful folks had any recommendations on the best place to find some designs? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Howdy everybody,
I'm a fresh, like a baby right outta da womb fresh, beginner and I was hoping that you could refer me to some good, affordable books or websites, that would allow me to learn more about mehndi and henna, the ingredients, i guess you would say for the mixture, and possibly a good start on designs, and what the different symbols represent. I really wanna get to the nitty gritty of this and learn how to do it :D it would be wonderful and it's great cause i can't wait to be my own test dummy ;)
Hope to hear your wise words soon :D
Thanks,

Greetings, all you talented henna people out there, I *just*discovered this thread after a few weeks of surfing, and I'm so glad to be able to connect with other henna artists around the country! If I may ask a question of you all, I've been doing henna for about 5 years (mostly the Ren faires) in the northeast and was wondering people's opinions of charging for fixing smudges, goofs etc..I realize that doing henna on little ones sometimes can be challenging and people will occaisonally bump into each other, but there are times when clients clearly are't conscientious and cut ahead of all my other people waiting in line insisting to be fixed for free..Any and all thoughts on this topic are greatly
appreciated!

Hello Goddesses!

I want to do up some candles with henna for Solstice. What can I do to keep it from flaking off easily? For other projects I use aerosol shellac and whatnot, but I don't want that stuff burning in my house!

Anyone done this before?

Hi everyone,

I am just breaking the news that i've gathered together a big set of
Bridal patterns that i've made in the last few days and turned it
into a new pattern book!

Modern Bridal Mehndi Patterns

Here are 2 samples from the book:

http://www.hennaspirit.com/gallery/products/books/modernbridalsample1.jpg

http://www.hennaspirit.com/gallery/products/books/modernbridalsample2.jpg

This design book has 20 pages with more then 30 Bridal Mehndi
designs (Designs for hands only) and 20 extra Indian style 'tattoo'
designs which are great for gilding and glitters!. These designs are
for the more intermediate and advanced as they are very intricate
and require some level of skill.

The designs are perfect for professionals who have many bridal
clients wanting ot have more modern style patterns. The designs were
drawn with the modern bride in mind and what has been most
fashionable in the recent months.

If you are interested in buying this book, you can visit my site for

Is it henna?

Hi. I have a question about hand art and I figured that this was the right place to ask! I have noticed that in pictures of women from India, that oftentimes they will have designwork done on their hands that is colorful...a pink-red, for instance that does not look (to me anyway) that it is a henna stain. Does anyone know what this is?
Thank you I appreciate it.

Artist Needed 11/13

Hi there,

I am looking for a reliable, highly experienced henna artist to join me for a high-end yet relaxed gig in the Napa Valley on Nov 13th. If you can send a link to photos, that would be great - I want an artist whose work makes me go "wow".

The ideal candidate would be both professional and laid-back, and hopefully, someone capable of trading gigs in the future. None of the witty, irreverant, bright, chill, fun, unique artists I've worked with over the past seven years of doing this can come on this date, so someone matching this description is ideal.

I am committed to a cooperative approach to henna, i.e. do not feel comfortable taking money out of what I pay you, so I ask that you do the same - a "gentlewoman's agreement" to share and share alike. This means I am willing to be very generous, but only to someone who will grant me the same courtesy. To me henna is about community with other artists, not making money off of the random chance that someone found my website before yours.

You must also be culturally sensitive - able to understand and respect traditions and history, as well as experienced with fairs and festivals.

Despite my serious description, I expect this gig to be fun, maybe even with free food, and I look forward to offering you this opportunity to help me realize my dream of a henna team in the Bay Area!

When you contact me, we can discuss pricing, travel, other arrangements.

Looking forward to hearing from you - I know you're out there!

Anne

Resignation from the Henna Page

Some of the main contributors to the Henna Page have resigned because of the unprofessional and unethical atmosphere there. When they posted their resignations to the forum, these posts were almost immediately deleted and the writers of these posts were then blocked from posting. For anyone who doesn't think that the Henna Page would do anything to keep their little dictatorship going, think again.

The people who resigned were Erfan Mahlodji, Nick Cartier, Kenzi and Thea (of Adorn Henna). Below are their letters of resignation for your information (we weren't able to save Erfan's before it was deleted). You can email any and all of us if you have any questions or comments.

From Nick:

Hello all,
Some of you may have noticed that as of late, I have ceased posting
here on the Henna Page forum. I am making this post to let everyone
know that my leaving the forum was a conscious choice, and not merely
coincidence. The state of the forum over the past year+ has gone from
primarily a place of education to a social and phsychological
battlefield, where people and opinions are continually shot down and
basic principles of fairness and ethics are denied. I can no longer
continue to support this forum in good conscience, so I am making
this post as a formal notice of my departure. It saddens me that the
situation has come to this, but at this point there do not appear to
be any other options but to remain silent or leave. So i have chosen
the latter.

If anyone would like to speak with me about this, please do not
hesitate to email me.

Best regards to all,
~Nick Cartier

From Thea:

Why are you blocking the posts?
From Efan , Nick , Kenzi?

They had some interting things that others may want to know about.
Like why theyre leaving.
They have contributed many valuable things over the years. /They have something to say.
Oh policy changes.
Oh you cant post here.

Oh well.

It is sad that this wonderful community it has come to be this fascist state. Under New managemnet!

I miss all the others who've been banned and quit.

This The Henna Page (tm)
wouldnt be the same without thier work, time and money.

The truth is too dangeruos for your readers?
email me privately obviuosly Ill be next!

Peace out
henna babies!

From Kenzi:

Dear all,

I am posting here today to announce my withdrawal from the Henna Page and my resignation from the ICNHA (certifcation) board. I regret that I have to take these actions, but I feel that I cannot in good conscience stay and contribute to a site that persists in unethical, unprofessional and nasty behavior. I do not make these claims lightly or without evidence, however, I will not air the particulars here. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

I have been actively participating here for 5 years and I am so thankful for all I have learned from the Henna Page. I would not be the henna artist or the business person that I am today without the Henna Page and its supporters and participants. I made some really wonderful and lasting friends here and these will be things that will stay with me in the long-term. That is why I feel so much disappointment at the recent actions on the Henna Page management and staff, so much so that I feel forced to leave this place that gave me so much. I feel that the negative has finally overwhelmed the positive and I cannot, in good faith, continue to support such a thing.

Despite my withdrawal and resignation, I will still be doing henna and selling henna. More importantly, I will still help out anyone who has questions about henna or just wants to talk about henna, so feel free to contact me via email.

I hope that those of you who feel the same way I do, will take courage from my actions and take the plunge. Feel free to email me if you would like to talk to me about this. Those of you who have already talked to me about this will receive an email with details.

Good luck to everyone and happy hennaing.

Mehndi recipes?

I know that some folks like to keep it a secret- but I want to work on making my designs darker.

Here is the recipe I typically use. Please give suggestions on what to add to darken the stain. Also, any technique suggestions would be great.

sifted henna powder from Indian grocery store
strong black coffee
eucalyptus oil
lime or lemon juice

I don't have exact measurements- just add until mixture is the right consistency. Put it in a jacquard bottle, let it sit for a couple hours, then go to it.

When it starts to dry, I cover the design with a mixture of lemon juice and sugar ( a few times) then leave on as long as possible. After scraping it off, I keep a lot of lotion or oil on the skin and try not to use soap too much.

This has gotten the best results for me, but it isn't nearly as dark as some of the photos posted.

Could it be that I need better-quality henna? Is there something I should be doing that I'm not? What recipes do you use?

Thanks!

Jenn

Hiya, it's me, ra, also on the Henna Artistry tribe...

what I would like to know is...

How do you get such nice, straight, lines in your geometric designs? Is it freehand?

They are lovely.

Thanks!

Hello All,

So last night I did a test on doing some shading. I posted a picture here (the last one page #3) but this morning, all I got was a large orange stain :-(

I had seen a picture of something similar and thought it looked really nice. Is there a way to obtain such an effect ? I did the shading first, leaving the paste (very liquid) for about 10 minutes.

Thanks !
Magali

Please, please upload photos of cool Mehndi designs...whether on your own skin or of someone else's.

i personally find the most traditional and intracate designs on hands, feet and necks to be the most attractive. Anyone else have a thought or two on that?
